Hello! Welcome to my Online Library!
My name is Abigail and I am nine-years old and I love to read!
And jumping right into it, without further ado, here is the story of my very own library I am creating and building and tracking with this fun website:
After hearing my mom talk one day about how I love to read poetry, a friend of hers – who loves to read as well – mailed me a little book of Emily Dickinson’s poetry. But no, this wasn’t just any little book, but a book by his favorite publisher called Everyman’s Library. This yellow gem, I quickly learned was what is called an Everyman’s Library “Pocket Poet!”
And just like that, with this one adorable little Pocket Poet, it wasn’t even hardly ten minutes after opening the present that I learned that there are actually 115 of these wonderful, poetic treasures!
And 60 Everyman’s Library Children’s Classics!
And 28 Everyman’s Library Pocket Classics: short-story collections!
And the rest, as they say, is history: Let’s collect and read all of these wonderful poets and their poems said my Mom and I! And why not the Children’s Classics as well? And why not the great, literary short stories even still?
By day’s end, a hobby was born!!!!!
So again, thank you for visiting my little library of literary and poetic treasures - and be sure to have a look below from time to time to track my progress! Why not come along with me for the ride? As Robert Frost invites his readers in his famous poem The Pasture:
“I sha'n't be gone long. - You come too."
Here is the link to the official Everyman's Library website where you can learn even more about each of my three Everyman's Collections by clicking on the applicable, individual links in their horizontal navigation bar at the top. Enjoy and happy reading!
These little pocket-sized treasures are filled with poems from famous poets the world over! And in addition to Robert Frost, William Shakespeare, Rumi, et al., there are also scores of editions that are themed-based: poems about trees, yep! Poems about nature, poems about art and singing and love and dancing and fishing and praying and sculpture…it’s all there, poems galore!
NOTE: The lists below are in Alphabetical Order by Poet & then by Theme
The Children’s Classics are colorful and elegant and treasures of world literature. From Daddy Long Legs and Cinderella to Pinocchio and The Jungle Book, from the Adventures of Robin Hood and Treasure Island to Sleeping Beauty and Aesop’s Fables, one is sure to discover scores and scores of extraordinary children classics for your endless reading pleasure!
The Pocket Classics are 28 short story anthologies on a variety of subjects - ranching from famous cities around the world to stories about horses and cats and ghosts and love and golf and art and dogs and the kitchen and the sea! - all written by well-known authors that we have come to love and treasure!
